There are several ways to toast or brown shredded coconut. One is to evenly spread the coconut in a baking sheet to bake in the oven until brown. The second would be to toast the coconut in a pan over the stove. I use the second method since I find it easier and faster.
It is not necessary to stir the shredded coconut in the pan frequently up until the first five minutes. Once the shredded coconut in the pan shows the slightest hint of brown, then the stirring begins.
